Vox Super Continental. One of the few organs that entered the "musical instruments hall of fame". Famous English manufacturer VOX, renowned of its no-compromise quality, produced the Continental series of organs during the sixties. The Continental organs soon established themselves as a second to none choice for, let's call it that way, a different-than-Hammond sound. They were used very much by the rock bands looking for a fresh and different approach to organs in pop music. Its sound is robust, tough in its basic timbre and with a lot of presence in the higher spectrum. The drawbar controls will let you do exactly what you expect, and enable to make it either subtle or very bright. The sound is rather "new-wave", and yet it has a component of a classic seriousness. By adding the squeaky component and emphasizing the higher harmonics, it can be turned into the famous "cheese" style organ sound.
The Super-Continental, with two manuals of inverted color keys, is the top model of the series and together with the Continental-Baroque presents the most wanted Vox organs. An excellent Web page about the early Continental series can be found on moocow. Just note that the prices quoted there refer to early and single-manual models. Call for the price.
